3rd Meeting with Conversation Partner

I met with my conversation partner, Francesca, on Thursday October 18th. We met outside the business school and enjoyed the beautiful weather as we chatted. During our conversation we spoke more in-depth about her family, her possible career option and her life in Chile.

I noticed that during this meeting Francesca was much more confident with her English speaking abilities. She did not try to clarify things or excuse her self saying, “I hope you can understand me," or "I'm not really sure if I am saying that right." She said that she had been practicing her English more with her sister and her friends. She also spoke less formally and had clearly picked up some of the American slang. We also laughed together about the strange things that people in Texas say such as, "Y'all" and "Fixin' to." It was interesting to see how we could both bond over the fact that neither one of us was from Texas.

Additionally, we spoke about traveling. I have always loved to travel and have enjoyed my experiences abroad. She told me all about how she has traveled to many of the countries in South America. After high school, she and a few of her friends went back packing through Peru and Ecuador. We talked about this specific trip for quite a while I also visited Peru and Ecuador after High School. We went to many of the same cities and experienced the same things. I also noticed that the more we spoke about things that were interesting to her, the more comfortable and confident she became in her English speaking abilities. However, the more excited she got about the conversation the less she focused on correcting her strong accent.

I found this meeting really fun and enjoyable.

I really enjoyed this meeting and found our conversation very interesting.
